A bandit made off with about $11,000 in jewelry from a Lake City store Friday afternoon, said Steve Shaw of the Lake City Police Department.

The theft occurred at Jewels and Gold in the Lake City Mall about 12:48 p.m. Store video shows the man walk up to a display of gold pendants on a counter, take the display and walk out while the clerk was at the other end of the counter with a customer, Shaw reported.

The culprit was described by witnesses as black, wearing prescription glasses and wearing a tan hat, tan suit jacket, black pants and white tennis shoes.

Local pawn shops have been notified and a bulletin was issued to surrounding counties for law enforcement assistance.
