In recognition of Coretta Scott King's extraordinary talent and commitment to justice and education, the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will direct a showcase of talents during the annual observance in her honor.
It will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday — and not Wednesday as listed in the King Week calendar — at Showers of Blessings Harvest Center, 2615 SE 15th St. The program is free and a reception will follow.
The program will include selections from the King Celebration Choir, tributes in dance by Light Dance Ministry and presentations from the University of Florida chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
“UF students as well as members of the graduate chapter of the sorority and community performers will lend voice and talent to this year’s theme,” said Florida Bridgewater-Alford, president of the Gainesville chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. “Soror King was an incredible talent and an amazing woman of strength and perseverance. We will show her steadfast commitment through Tuesday’s program.”
