Thanks to a little help from the community, the Southeast Boys & Girls Club in Lincoln Estates will be staying open for at least until the end of the school year.
And more help, in the form of an advisory board and an alumni association, could provide more assistance in keeping the club open past that time.
There will be a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the T.B. McPherson Recreation Center, 1717 SE 15th St., to form an advisory board and an alumni association for the club, which will continue normal operations, thanks to a donation of $37,000 from Alachua County Commission Chairman Lee Pinkoson and $12,000 from Gainesville developer and club alumnus Edwin Dix.
Pinkoson and Dix pledged those donations last Wednesday at a Lincoln Estates monthly neighborhood meeting, also at the McPherson Center, in which the major topic of discussion was the future of the club.
