A woman is accused of breaking into a northwest Gainesville home Monday and pouring bleach over another woman's wardrobe.

Gainesville police said Crystal Lashanna Staples, 29, of 5929 NW 25th Terrace, broke into Reagan Brown's home at 5817 NW 23rd Terrace at 7:15 a.m. Monday. Police said that Staples and Reagan may be acquainted. Staples told officials she broke a window in the residence but used a set of keys to get inside.

Once in the home, Staples is accused of stacking Brown's clothing, then dousing them with a bottle of bleach she found in the residence. The value of the damaged clothing was estimated at $1,000.

Before leaving, police said Staples took two bags, a phone and keys worth a combined $650.

Staples was arrested a couple of hours later and charged with burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief. She was being held at the Alachua County jail on Tuesday morning.

Staples' prior criminal history includes serving a three-year sentence in state prison. According to Florida Department of Corrections records, she was convicted of multiple counts of forgery as well as escape and grand theft. Staples was released from prison in 2004.
