A Morriston man told investigators he was drunk when he destroyed the seventh green at the Williston Highlands Golf & Country Club, according the Levy County Sheriff's Office.
Club officials said it will cost more than $25,000 to repair the damage.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the damage was reported Sunday by golf course owner Randy Jones. Someone apparently had driven onto the green and spun doughnuts, destroying it, Jones said.
Sheriff's Investigator Jay Crooms found out about a party at a house adjacent to the green and over the next couple of days questioned attendees. Crooms said statements by partygoers led him to Timothy Lee Dixon, 24, of 6490 SE 186th Terrace in Morriston.
While being questioned, Dixon admitted to driving on the green and doing the damage, Crooms said. Crooms said Dixon also told him he had been drinking at the party and was impaired when he drove onto the golf course.
Dixon was charged with felony criminal mischief and booked into the Levy County jail in Bronson.
