Gainesville Police Chief Tony Jones helped picked up 27 boys early Tuesday and led them out of town, but not in handcuffs. The boys Jones escorted on Tuesday morning were headed to Tallahassee to participate in the Governor's Inaugural Parade.

The drill team from the Reichert House Youth Academy was up at 5 a.m. to practice their maneuvers before leaving for Tallahassee at 8:30 a.m. The parade is scheduled to begin at 2:15 p.m.

Police Capt. Ed Book said the academy for at-risk youth between the ages of 10 and 18 considered it a great honor to participate in a historic event like an inauguration.

The participants, who are in grades five through 12, were scheduled to return to Gainesville on Tuesday evening.
