I want to express my appreciation to Coach Meyer for six exciting and wonderful years of Gator football. I am so disappointed he will no longer be our head coach, but I respect his reasons for stepping down.
Coach Meyer was so much more than just a good coach. I always loved to hear him express how much it meant to him to be coaching at Florida. In many ways he reminded me of President Ronald Regan, in that every time Regan gave a speech he made me so proud to be an American. In that same way, Coach Meyer had a way with words that always made me even more proud to be a Gator.
The times he spoke of taking off his head phones to take in the spirit of the game and the many times he expressed how much he loved just being around the players. I know this has been very difficult for him giving up being the head coach of this great university. It is truly amazing what he has accomplished in six years at UF. He leaves big shoes to fill. More than just being a great coach, he is a quality person.
Coach, you will leave a vacant place in my heart and I personally appreciate all you and your family have given to the university, football team and fans. The one bright spot is that you will not be leaving Gainesville. Thanks for everything and it will not be the same when football season comes and you are not on the sidelines with the team. Y
