OCALA - Officials were kept busy Monday afternoon responding to seven traffic crashes on Interstate 75 in less than two hours.
The first crash occurred at mile marker 354 in the northbound lanes at about at 12:45 p.m., according to Ocala Fire Rescue. That wreck involved a tractor-trailer and four other vehicles. In that incident three adults were injured and were taken by ambulances to local hospitals.
One person was seriously injured in another collision that occurred a short time later at the Southwest 20th Street overpass.
Six of the crashes occurred within the city limits and one in unincorporated Marion County. All told, a dozen vehicles were involved.
"It was one big domino effect," Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Jeff Hilliard said. "It was a lot of stop and go traffic."
