Dept. of Transportation sets public meetings

The Florida Department of Transportation will hold three meetings in North Florida to explain road projects it will ask the 2011 Florida Legislature to finance.
FDOT’s public meetings for proposed projects (all meetings begin at 5:30 p.m.):
Today: Suwannee River Water Management District at 9225 County Road 49 in Live Oak for Taylor, Madison, Lafayette, Hamilton and Suwannee counties
Tuesday: FDOT District Two headquarters at 1109 S. Marion Ave. in Lake City for Levy, Dixie, Gilchrist, Alachua, Bradford, Union and Columbia counties
Dec. 9: FDOT Training Center at 2198 Edison Ave. in Jacksonville for Baker, Putnam, St. Johns, Clay, Nassau and Duval counties
Under state law, the agency is required to update its five-year plan annually with projects requested by local government, metropolitan planning organizations, the public and resurfacing criteria. Then the project list is presented to the legislature for funding.
The meetings in Live Oak today, in Lake City on Tuesday and in Jacksonville on Dec. 9 will all begin at 5:30 p.m. On the agenda will be the list of projects the department is proposing for 2011 through 2016 in the 18-county area of District Two.
