A 24-year-old Gainesville man who was arrested in August after police found him in a car with a half-dressed 12-year-old girl has been arrested again, this time on 37 counts of possession of child pornography.
Robert Brandon Bilus, of 3801 S.W. 13th St., was arrested by the Gainesville Police Department around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant that set his bond at $1.4 million.
According to court records, the cases against Bilus began Aug. 16 when High Springs Police Sgt. J. Antwan Sheppard pulled him over for a traffic violation.
Sheppard noticed the girl in the car with Bilus and that she was wearing only a T-shirt.
When Bilus and the girl were questioned, police said it became apparent they had met only two hours earlier in an online chat room and had arranged for Bilus to pick the girl up and drive her back to his apartment.
Bilus told Sheppard he had met the girl online and that she had told him she was 16.
The girl told Sheppard that Bilus must have known she was younger than 16 because of her online profile and what she had told him while they were communicating over their computers.
The girl's guardian said Bilus had been given permission to take the girl from her home.
Bilus was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was released within hours after posting a $5,000 bond.
Within hours of Bilus' arrest, Gainesville police said they executed a search warrant at his apartment and seized his laptop computer.
According to the court files, the pornographic photographs and videos that investigators found were downloaded to the laptop between Sept. 7, 2009, and Aug. 13, 2010, and they all portrayed young and teenage girls in various sex acts or poses.
In his report on the items found on the computer, Gainesville Police Officer John Madsen said he also found "10 explicit photos of the defendant taken using a mirror" in the same location on the computer as some of the child pornography.
Bilus was being held Wednesday at the Alachua County jail.
