In the wake of an explicit video leaked on the Internet of New England Patriots rookie linebacker Brandon Spikes, the former Florida Gator may have lost a marketing deal with Reebok and could face discipline from the NFL.

Spikes' agent, Terry Watson, told several outlets earlier this week that news of a sex tape involving Spikes had prompted Reebok to pull out of a potential marketing relationship.

Reebok spokesman Dan Sarro said in an e-mail to USA Today on Thursday that the company was never close to a contractual relationship with Spikes.

"The media reports that Reebok has terminated an endorsement contract with Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes are completely false," Sarro wrote. "Reebok never had a deal with Brandon. The story was reported without confirmation from Reebok, and as a result inaccurate information is now being reported as fact. We had discussions with Brandon earlier this summer, as we do with many NFL players, but no agreement has been reached and he is not currently under contract with Reebok."

Watson told The Boston Globe on Wednesday that he was informed of the pulled offer by a former marketing agent of Spikes, and has put in a call to an executive from Reebok to discuss the matter.

News of the pulled offer first appeared on a blog called "What Would Joe Namath Do?", and that report indicated that the deal was worth $60,000 with on-field achievement incentives that could increase its value. Watson couldn't confirm the financial terms, but did say that Spikes is contrite.

"He's OK," Watson told The Globe. "There's nothing he can do about it now but continue to be the person he is, and the kind of leader he will be on and off the field. He can't rewind what occurred, but he's been through adversity with football and off the field, like we all have, and knows how to deal with it."

The league is looking into the matter, and the Patriots haven't commented on it. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told ESPN on Wednesday that the league was investigating the sex tape. Spikes could potentially face discipline under the NFL's personal-conduct policy.
