It didn't take long for Groveland South Lake cornerback Nick Waisome to make his college decision when the cameras went on at Universal Studios in Orlando.
During an announcement that aired on ESPNU Wednesday night, Waisome, rated the seventh-best corner prospect in the nation by Rivals.com, promptly swapped his South Lake High hat for a blue University of Florida hat and declared his intentions of becoming a Gator next year.
"The place I'll be playing my college football at — the University of Florida," Waisome said on ESPNU.
Waisome's pledge gives Florida 14 verbal commitments in its 2011 recruiting class. Waisome chose Florida over Florida State, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina.
"I had a great relationship with the coaches, some of the players," Waisome said of what went into his decision to pick Florida. "I like the atmosphere of the school, it's always a fun place."
"It's a great school, (Florida) wins championships."
Waisome developed a strong relationship with former cornerbacks coach Vance Bedford, but after he left to join Louisville's staff, Waisome was able to develop an equally strong bond with safeties coach Chuck Heater and new defensive coordinator/cornerbacks coach Teryl Austin.
As a junior, Waisome recorded 67 tackles, 18 pass break-ups and four interceptions. On offense, he had 17 receptions for 495 yards and six touchdowns.
"He understands his role," ESPN recruiting analyst Tom Luginbill said Wednesday. "He's a tough, physical kid. He really likes to mix it up.
"There are feisty guys and on-an-island cover guys. You get a little bit of both in Nick Waisome."
