Williston man critically injured in bike crash

A Williston man was in critical condition Tuesday after he was thrown from a dirt bike he was riding, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Dana Monroe, 26, was transported to Shands at the University of Florida after being treated by firefighters and paramedics at the scene of the accident on 13th Street in Williston, according to troopers.

The accident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Monroe was traveling south on the shoulder of the road and was jumping the 2004 Yamaha over a driveway, troopers reported.

He made the jump but crashed on landing on the driveway's south side, ending up in a ditch.

Monroe was not wearing a helmet or eye protection, according to troopers.
