A Williston man died Wednesday afternoon after his truck crashed on State Road 121 in Alachua County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Killed was Roy Sylvester David, 57, according to troopers. The wreck occurred at about 3 p.m. approximately five miles west of Gainesville.

David had been driving west on the road when his 2006 Chevy truck drifted onto the road's north shoulder, troopers reported. He oversteered back to the left and the truck began to rotate.

The vehicle traveled across both lanes of the road, onto the south shoulder and struck a fence and a large tree, FHP reported.

David was taken to Shands at the University of Florida where he was later pronounced dead, according to troopers.

An initial report from troopers said David was wearing a seat belt.
