The city of Gainesville has announced the Heart of Florida Asian Festival--which started as the China Fest in 2008--will be expanded to two days this year. The festival will take place 12-6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 24 at the Thomas Center for the Arts. According to a press release, "due to the large crowds in attendance last year" it was decided to make the festival a two-day event. The festival will feature performances, visual and culinary arts representing countries of Asia.

The city is currently accepting applications for visual artists, performing artists, food vendors and community groups which are of Asian heritage or are Asian themed. Sponsors and volunteers for the festival are also needed. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs would like interested participants to contact festival coordinator David Ballard at ballarddg@cityofgainesville.org or by phone at 352-393-8746.
