Tebow is one of 10 former Florida players participating in the Combine, which runs today through Tuesday.
While there are other Gators expected to go higher than Tebow in the draft (Joe Haden and Carlos Dunlap in particular), the speculation over whether Tebow can play quarterback in the NFL has become almost a national obsession, and he will be one of the most-watched (and most-written-about) players at the Combine.
Workouts in Lucas Oil Stadium begin Saturday for the offensive linemen, specialists and tight ends. The quarterbacks, along with the wide receivers and running backs, will work out on Sunday.
The workouts include the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill and shuttle run.
Tebow draws a crowd wherever he goes, and it will be no different the next few days in Indianapolis. What the NFL executives, coaches and scouts from all 32 teams won't see Tebow doing is throwing the football.
Tebow has been in Nashville the past month training with former NFL quarterback Zeke Bratkowski and former NFL quarterbacks coach Marc Trestman. Bratkowski and Trestman have revamped Tebow's throwing motion, shortening it and raising the level at which he holds the ball before his release.
ESPN has some tape of the new motion, but Tebow does not plan to debut it for the coaches and scouts until UF's annual Pro Day on March 17 in The Swamp.
During his week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., coaches and scouts offered varying opinions on whether Tebow will make it as a quarterback in the NFL. Most agreed that Tebow needed improve his mechanics and footwork, and that's what he's been working with Bratkowski and Trestman.
At the Senior Bowl, numerous coaches and scouts praised Tebow for his strengths — leadership, athletic ability, passion for the game, work ethic and willingness to be coached.
Several coaches said Tebow would score high marks when he goes through the interview process with teams, which he will be doing this week in Indianapolis.
Tebow will be around some familiar faces in Indy. Nine of his former UF teammates also are participating in the Combine.
Haden and Dunlap are considered almost first-round locks and will be getting a lot of attention from the coaches and scouts.
The other former Gators at the Combine are tight end Aaron Hernandez, linebacker Brandon Spikes, center Maurkice Pouncey, defensive end Jermaine Cunningham, wide receiver Riley Cooper, safety Major Wright and kicker returner Brandon James.
Florida’s total of 10 invitees is tied for the third-highest total in the country, and is the most it has had under Urban Meyer. The
SEC will have the most players at the Combine — 64.
