During life and death situations such as hurricanes, Cox Communications will get permission from the Weather Channel to move it to the basic tier so all viewers have access to emergency weather information.
Tim Tebow's appearance in Saturday's Senior Bowl is not one of those situations.
The game will air at 4 p.m. on the NFL Network, which is part of Cox's Sports and Information Pak on channel 250, as well as in high definition on NFL HD on channel 786.
For Cox to make the game more widely available, Cox said it would have to get permission from the NFL Network to move it to a lower tier or the network would have to waive its fees to Cox to make the channel available for free. But that's not going to happen.
"It's not our program to air, unfortunately," said Cox spokeswoman Devon Chestnut.
Chestnut said she is not aware of any more people than usual adding or inquiring about the Sports and Information Pak, but many people already have it, with it being the most popular advanced tier in Gainesville.
Those interested in adding the tier by game time can do so by phone if they already have digital service, or by adding digital service. Digital receivers are available in the Cox office at 2418 N. Main St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
