Columbia fell 2-0 to Fleming Island in Orange Park, giving the Golden Eagles their fourth consecutive district championship and their sixth over the last seven seasons. Fleming Island’s Seth Dedmon scored the game’s only offensive goal. Dedmon’s goal came on a rebound off the back bar. According to Buchholz coach Trevor Tyler, he couldn’t have been in a better spot. “Our keeper, Cameron Harper, was in great position to make the play, but if ever there was a perfect positioning for another player to get a header, that was it,” Tyler said.
Columbia will be on the road against Tallahassee Lincoln on Thursday in the Region 1-5A quarterfinals. Even with the loss, the Tigers (20-5-1) clinched their fifth overall playoff appearance. The last time they were in the playoffs was 2007. Fleming Island (17-0-3) will host Tallahassee Chiles that same day.
Tallahassee Maclay 3, Lafayette 0: Germaine Littles scored two goals and Lincoln Lewis also scored to lift Tallahassee Maclay to a 3-0 win over Lafayette. The win gives the Marauders their third straight District 4-5A championship. The Hornets came into Friday’s matchup looking for their first ever district title. Lafayette has played in a district championship game just one time, in 2007 a year in which it was the district runner-up. Lafayette (6-7-2) will play on the road on Thursday against St. Francis while Maclay (18-2-1) hosts P.K. Yonge.
