A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly stealing a woman's laptop computer while she was working on it in a coffee shop. Gainesville Police said the man later confessed to trading the laptop for crack.
Curtis L. Kinsey, 30, Tampa, was arrested a short time later and charged with robbery and grand theft.
Officer John O'Ferrell said a woman drinking coffee and working on her laptop in the Starbucks at 207 S.E. 1st St. reported that a man grabbed the laptop from her at about 2:30 p.m.
Officer Joe Washington found a man matching the description of the suspect who was identified as Kinsey. The officers said Kinsey led them to 500 S.W. 5th St. where he claimed he had gone to trade the laptop for crack cocaine. Kinset also reportedly admitted to smoking the drug before police found him.
The computer was found and returned to the woman, according to police spokeswoman Corp. Tscharna Senn.
Kinsey was booked into the Alachua County jail.
