Name: DENNIS MAVIN

School: The Rock

Year: Senior

Position: Guard

Jersey number: 10

Height: 6-foot-2

Area player I would pay to watch play: (Teammate) Scottie Wilbekin; outside of The Rock: Eastside’s Benji Bell

Basketball skill I need to work on most…: I’d say my shooting. I need to get more consistent shooting deep.

Comic book hero I would want to be: Superman

Defeating what team(s) would make me the happiest?: (Jacksonville) Arlington Country Day

ESPN’s best program?: all the programs. I like them all.

Favorite memory of (former Eastside teammate) Dante Anderson?: Watching him dunk on Anthony Nwadigo in the GHS vs. Eastside game his junior year. (editor’s note: as a freshman at Eastside, Mavin was a teammate of Anderson, who was two years older. The state’s No. 1-ranked player in his graduating class, Anderson died following an automobile crash in May 2007)

Gators, Seminoles or Hurricanes?: Hurricanes

Hoisting the national championship trophy when March Madness ends will be...: Kentucky

I’m referred to as “Junior” because...: My Dad is “Senior.”

John Wall is...: the best college player ever.

Kobe, LeBron or D-Wade?: LeBron James because he can’t be stopped

Least favorite sports moment I’ve had: losing in the first round of the playoffs my junior year (at Eastside)

My reason for transferring to The Rock from Eastside was...: It was a better school and atmosphere for me to get prepared for college.

New Year’s resolution?: win the state title

Obama’s biggest challenge?: bringing the economy back

Potential college major: business

Quiet time activity: reading sports magazines

Rapper I listen to most: Gucci Man

Scottie Wilbekin and I play 1-on-1, who wins and how?: I win on an and-1 dunk. (Mavin acknowledges Wilbekin would have a different answer, saying Scottie would say he would win on a foul.)

The experience we got in the Kruel Classic was...: Playing tougher competition and learning how to come together as a team and pull of big wins.

Universities or colleges considering: Marshall, FAU and Stetson (he has scholarship offers from Marshall and Stetson; FAU has indicated it might be close to offering, and former GHS guard Greg Gantt - now a starter as a freshman there - is pushing for him to go to FAU)

Vacation spot I love: Las Vegas... Caesar’s Palace

What does The Rock have to do to win the Class 1A state championship?: We have to get that close bond together, which is coming along, but we do have to come more together as a team.

Xbox, PlayStation or Wii?: PlayStation (NCAA 2K10 is favorite game)

Young player the area will get to know in the next few years: (sophomore guard) Benji Bell of Eastside (Anderson’s younger brother)

Zoo animal I like most: lion
