Gainesville Police are searching for a man who robbed another man inside a hotel near Archer Road and Interstate 75 Saturday afternoon.

The suspect followed the man into the Hilton Garden Inn, 4075 S.W. 33rd Place, according to police. The robbery occurred at about 3 p.m.

The man said he had recognized someone in the hotel parking lot but then headed into the building, police reported. The 28-year-old said he heard a car door shut and was followed into the elevator. As he was opening a room door, a man armed with a gun confronted him and pushed him inside the room.

No injuries were reported but the suspect escaped with cash, police said.

Officers believe the suspect left the area. Police think the person the victim recognized in the parking lot may be from the Levy County area. Police released a vehicle description and said the suspect was seen in a newer model, dark gray Chrysler 300 with tinted windows.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Cpl. Mike Schentrup or Detective Patty Nixon at 334-2470.
