A Fort White resident was killed Saturday afternoon after veering into oncoming traffic on State Road 47 in Columbia County, reported the Florida Highway Patrol.
The name and gender of the deceased was not released by FHP late Saturday afternoon because next of kin had not been notified. The person was born in 1954 but the month was not included in an FHP release.
The release states that the accident happened about 12:35 p.m. on SR 47 a half-mile south of County Road 238. The deceased was driving a 1991 Ford F-150 southbound and crossed into the northbound lane into the path of a 1992 Jeep Cherokee driven by Lydia Cherri, 39, of Fort White.
Cherri overturned on the east shoulder of the road while the deceased continued south toward the east shoulder.
At that point the deceased collided with a northbound Ford driven by Henry Bussey, 31, of High Springs. FHP reported that Bussey tried to avoid a collision but was unable to.
The victim died at the scene, according to FHP. Cherri and a passenger of Bussey, Marshall Bussey, who was born in January, 1981, were taken with minor injuries to Shands at Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City. Henry Bussey had minor injuries but declined to be taken to the hospital.
