The Levy County Sheriff's Office is offering a basic pistol class as a fundraiser for the family of the Dixie County deputy killed in the line of duty.

Dixie County Capt. Chad Reed left behind a wife and two small sons when he was shot and killed in a gun battle with a suspected murderer on Jan. 14.

Levy County deputies are hosting the Feb. 6 class to benefit the Reed family. Those who successfully complete the course will qualify to apply for a concealed weapons permit in Florida. The $65 fee will include lunch and additional donations will be accepted.
