An Alabama man was hospitalized with serious injuries following a Thursday night accident on U.S. 441 at Northwest Josephine Street in Columbia County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Injured was Clifford Moore, 46, of Eufaula, Ala., according to an FHP news release. He was taken to Shands at the University of Florida. A passenger, Robert Owen Madaus III, 49, of West Palm Beach, was not injured.
Moore was driving a Ford pickup north in the northbound lane of U.S. 441. A truck driven by Juan Carlos Chambrot-Alvarez, 46, of Miami, was facing east and backing west on U.S. 441 while attempting to turn around. A passenger of his had gotten out to attempt to control traffic.
The FHP reported that Chambrot-Alvarez stopped when he saw Moore's pickup approaching. The front of Moore's pickup hit the rear and trailer of Chambrot-Alvarez's truck.
Chambrot-Alvarez was not injured. No charges were filed but the investigation is continuing.
