Someone vandalized Lake Forest Elementary School, causing thousands of dollars in damage to computer equipment and windows, earlier in the week, the Alachua County Sheriff's Office reported.
The break-in apparently occurred last weekend during the evening or night of Jan. 16 at the school at 4401 SE 4th Ave., said Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Steve Maynard.
The vandal, who either had a key to one of the gates into the school or jumped a fence, ransacked 10 classrooms. Windows were broken, and computer equipment was destroyed, Maynard said. Officers also found obscene language on some of the rooms' chalkboards.
Investigators collected physical evidence at the scene, which will be examined.
The case remained under investigation Friday, Maynard said.
