Gainesville Police are working to determine if an overnight armed robbery at a gas station is linked to an attempt to rob the same station earlier in the week.
According to police, two men wearing masks and carrying handgun held up the Kangaroo at 2300 E. University Ave. at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. The men fled with cash and cigars. Police said efforts to track them by helicopter and with K9 teams were unsuccessful. However, both men were captured on store surveillance cameras.
Lt. Dave Rowe said the hold-up may be related to a similar one on Sunday night.
"That one was not reported due to a language barrier with the clerk on duty," Rowe said. "When it (robbery) began, the clerk fled to the office and thesuspects took cigarettes but no money because they could not get the cash register open."
