MIAMI — A Miami-Dade Circuirt Court judge has blocked a bid from a Miami commissioner to overturn a suspension order.
Judge Victoria Platzer refused to grant an emergency order Tuesday that would have sent Michelle Spence-Jones back to the platform. Instead, the judge set a tentative trial date of Feb. 12 in her bid to overturn Gov. Charlie Crist's order suspending her for a second time after her second election victory since November.
She faces a grand theft charge for redirecting $50,000 in county grants to a family business. Spence-Jones, who represents Liberty City and Overtown, has pleaded not guilty.
Miami commissioners will meet Jan. 26 for an emergency session to appoint a replacement.
