Delays expected when work on CR 241 begins Tuesday

Starting Tuesday, motorists should expect delays on County Road 241 as work commences on the second phase of a resurfacing project.

Construction will be between County Road 236 and State Road 235 and will include the addition of two 4-foot-wide bicycle lanes, a turn lane at Mebane Middle School, drainage and sidewalk improvements and resurfacing of the road.

Traffic will sometimes be down to one-lane and delays will be between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m on weekdays. The construction has a projected completion date of May 2010.

Phase one of the project - from County 236 to the county line - was completed last September, according to the county Web site, and the full budget for the approximately 10-mile project is $6.6 million.

The project is funded through a bond for roads the County Commission approved in 2005, which the county is paying back through gas tax revenues.
