Nighttime lane closures are scheduled to begin tonight for the resurfacing of Southwest 122nd Street, also known as Parker Road, west of Gainesville, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

The southern section of the two-lane road will be resurfaced from Archer Road to Southwest 81st Place, a distance of nearly one mile. Once the resurfacing on this section is completed, the Alachua County Public Works Department plans to continue the resurfacing to Southwest 24th Avenue.

In addition to resurfacing, the roadway will have 5-foot-wide paved shoulders added, which will be marked as bike lanes. The Diamond Sports Park is located on 122nd Street, and bicyclists will be able to access the park using the new bike lanes.

Crews plan to pave the first layer of asphalt on the northbound lane tonight beginning at 6:30 and return on Tuesday night to work on the southbound lane.

For the rest of the project, the contractor plans to work during daytime hours only but can close lanes only between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to minimize any inconvenience to motorists.

DOT has contracted with APAC-Southeast Inc. of Jacksonville to do the work at a cost of $384,521.
