A man allegedly tried to rob a Gainesville pharmacy at knifepoint Monday before being locked inside the pharmacy for police to apprehend, Gainesville Police reported.
Raymond G. Branson, 58, allegedly approached the pharmacy at Winn Dixie, 300 SW 16th St., with a knife around 6 p.m. He threatened to kill the pharmacist if he didn't get all the pharmacy's Oxycontin pain medication, said Gainesville Police Lt. RobKoehler.
Koehler said Branson then jumped the pharmacy counter and the pharmacist jumped to the other side, pulled the metal gate and locked him inside.
"He was kind of like a bird in a cage," Koehler said.
Branson faces an armed robbery charge.
