NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla.— A Pasco County woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for shooting a teenager who joked about her ex-boyfriend.
A judge sentenced 37-year-old Christine Lightfoot on Thursday. A jury found her guilty of aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm in December.
Prosecutors say Lightfoot and two of her children were outside their home in January 2008 when Russell Litten, a neighbor who was 16 at the time, was riding around her driveway on a scooter and joked about her former boyfriend. Lightfoot then told her son to go inside and get her gun.
The son returned with a .22-caliber rifle, and Lightfoot shot Litten in the stomach. The teen spent three days in the hospital but has since recovered.
Lightfoot has seven children, ages 1 to 18.
