Man crushed by metal beam in Ocala accident

OCALA - An Orlando man died Friday morning after a metal beam weighing approximately 1,500 pounds fell on him.
Victor Lizarraga, 40, employed with Metal-Bilt Construction LLC out of Orlando, was reportedly attaching a safety cable to the beam when it fell. He was working on a project to expand an existing building at National Parts Depot at 900 S.W. 38th Ave.
Metal-Bilt is a sub-contractor on the project. The accident occurred in an outdoor area where several beams were being erected. Reportedly, Lizarraga and others were attempting to erect two I-beams in an "X" pattern when one of the 35-foot tall beams fell.
According to Ocala Fire Rescue officials, they got a 911 call at 8:47 a.m.
The man was pronounced deceased at 8:50 a.m.
OSHA officials were on their way to the scene Friday morning.
