Nationwide Insurance is moving an undetermined number of jobs to Gainesville over the next three years as it consolidates some customer claims support services into seven centers nationwide.
The number of jobs will be driven by business needs, said spokeswoman Nancy Smeltzer from the Columbus, Ohio, headquarters.
Nationwide is currently filling the openings with internal candidates before it opens up hiring to the general public, she said. Employees who had the jobs in other locations "get first crack at them," she said.
Interested potential employees can check for job openings at Nationwide.com. The site currently lists 10 jobs for claims customer service representatives in Gainesville, but Smeltzer said those are not related to the consolidations.
Having larger claims services staffs in centralized locations allows Nationwide to operate 24/7 call centers to handle customer claims, she said.
The other centers - chosen for being large corporate-owned facilities that house other departments - are in Westerville, Ohio, Raleigh, N.C., Harrisburg, Pa., Richmond, Va., Denver, Colo., and Des Moines, Iowa.
Nationwide's Gainesville facility includes regional management, a call center, underwriting and product departments, she said.
Some claim support services will remain in smaller offices around the nation, she said.
