MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — A manatee died after stranding itself on a Marco Island beach.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials believe the 6-feet-long juvenile likely beached itself Wednesday morning because of the cold. The animal will be taken to a St. Petersburg lab to determine a cause of death.

Two other manatees had recently been reported dead because of the cold.
