MIAMI — South Florida rescuers are preparing to go to Haiti to support relief efforts in the aftermath of the massive earthquake.
The U.S. Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance requested assistance on Wednesday from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and City of Miami Fire-Rescue's Urban Search & Rescue teams. The agencies report that they are preparing to send a total of nearly 160 emergency responders and more than a dozen search-and-research canines.
Both teams were preparing to leave Wednesday afternoon and trying to make transportation arrangements to the island nation.
