BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU free safety Chad Jones says he will enter the 2010 NFL draft.

In news release from his family on Monday, Jones said he felt it was the right time for him to enter the draft.

LSU did not issue a statement and sports information director Michael Bonnette said Coach Les Miles was unavailable for comment while attending the NCAA football coaches' convention in Orlando, Fla.

By declaring for the April 24 draft, Jones will forfeit his final season of football eligibility and his final two seasons of baseball eligibility.

He has until Jan. 18 to change his mind and return to LSU, provided he does not hire an agent.

In 2009, Jones played his first full season as a starter and was the team's fifth leading tackler with 74 stops. He had three interceptions and broke up six passes to earn second team All-SEC honors.
