The Weather Channel's "Local on the 8s" local weather report on Cox Cable was off over the weekend because of equipment failure for the second time in less than a year.

Cox Communications installed new equipment shipped from The Weather Channel on Monday afternoon to return service that had been out since Friday when the channel's equipment failed, said Mike Giampietro, vice president and general manager of Cox Central Florida.

"It's kind of a bad piece of luck to have it fail during unusual weather and people are more attuned to local weather than they would be," he said.

Since the equipment belongs to the Weather Channel, he said they would be talking to come up with a more immediate response to future equipment problems.
