BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A Davie man has been charged with hitting his wife while she was driving, causing her to flip their car on Florida's Turnpike.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the family was returning from a birthday party in Port St. Lucie in February when the couple began to argue. FHP says 33-year-old Dwight Robotham began hitting his wife near Boynton Beach and then grabbed the wheel. The vehicle flipped, and two people were ejected. There were a total of eight passengers. No one was killed.

Robotham was charged Tuesday child abuse, domestic battery and culpable negligence. He was being held on $45,750.
