COCOA, Fla. — A Brevard County high school student was arrested after police say they found an AK-47 assault rifle in his car while it was parked on school property.

Cocoa High School was placed on lockdown for about an hour Wednesday morning. School officials had received a tip that the 17-year-old student had drugs on him. When officers searched his car, they reportedly found the rifle in his trunk and two high-capacity rifle magazines and ammunition in the passenger compartment.

The student was charged with possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor and disruption of a school function. He was taken to the Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center.
