WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A Delray Beach man is facing an animal cruelty charge after authorities say he killed his pet cat and skinned it.
An officer responding to a call at 26-year-old Jason Lester Alkire's home last week reported finding Alkire in his backyard, kneeling over the animal with a pocket knife.
Police say Alkire initially told the officer that they cat died and he wanted to keep the fur as a memorial. He later admitted that the cat had scratched him, and he strangled it.
Alkire was in court Tuesday, following a mental health evaluation. A judge ordered that Alkire should be held on $3,000 bail.
