FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Defensive ends coach Kirk Botkin won't be coaching at Arkansas next season.

Arkansas' athletic department sent a two-sentence statement Tuesday announcing Botkin's resignation, while various media outlets said Botkin was fired by coach Bobby Petrino.

Arkansas hired Botkin from Louisiana-Monroe when Petrino took over the Razorbacks in 2008.

The school's statement said Botkin "has resigned to pursue other career opportunities."

Stephens Media reported Petrino dismissed Botkin a day after the Razorbacks' 20-17 overtime win over East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl.
