BRADENTON, Fla. — A former high school football star from southwest Florida has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting of another teen.
A Manatee County judge sentenced former Lakewood Ranch High School quarterback Timothy Brooks on Monday. The 19-year-old was found guilty last month of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.
Prosecutors say Brooks shot 19-year-old William White in the neck after robbing him of a necklace in July 2008. Another teen, 19-year-old Cody Rogers, has also been charged with murder and is scheduled to go on trial next month.
As a junior in 2007, Brooks threw for 604 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing for another 631 yards and seven scores.
