COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina has hired Appalachian State assistant coach Shawn Elliott to be the Gamecocks new offensive line coach.

The 36-year-old Elliott played for the Mountaineers and has been an assistant at the school his entire career, spending the last eight years coaching the offensive line.

Elliott will be South Carolina's third offensive line coach in three seasons. John Hunt was fired at the end of the 2008 season, and Eric Wolford left the team last month to became the coach at Youngstown State.

Elliott won two Southern Conference titles as a player and helped the Mountaineers to three straight national titles as an assistant coach.
