TAMPA, Fla. — Hillsborough County deputies say they stopped a man from setting his estranged wife on fire after he doused her with gasoline.

The sheriff's office reports that 26-year-old Walter Dunn III kicked open the front door of a 34-year-old man's Tampa home Monday night, grabbed his 27-year-old wife by the hair and began beating the woman as he pulled her outside.

Dunn reportedly drove the woman back to his house, forced her into the garage and started pouring gasoline on her. When his lighter failed to work, deputies say Dunn continued to beat her and tried to cut her fingers with garden shears.

That's when deputies arrived and arrested Dunn. He was charged with several counts related to battery and kidnapping. He was being held without bail.
