TALLAHASSEE — Gainesville was eliminated from playoff competition with a 25-10, 25-22, 25-11 loss to Tallahassee Leon in the Region 1-5A quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Eryn Croft had seven kills, five service points and five digs, Carly Hellstrom had 12 digs and Sydney Maynard had 19 assists for Gainesville (18-10).

Leon (22-4) will host Buchholz on Tuesday in the Region 1-5A semifinals.

Gainesville lost to Eastside 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 in last year’s regional finals after knocking off Jacksonville Bartram Trail in the quarterfinals.

Region 2-3A: Fort White failed to advance after a 25-11, 25-16, 25-18 loss to Trinity Catholic in the Region 2-3A quarterfinals in Ocala on Tuesday.

The Celtics took an 8-0 lead in the first game on Allie Mulbarger’s five straight kills. Fort White couldn’t take advantage of any chances with possibilities of swaying momentum.

The Indians were held to only eight kills through the entire match with only one coming in the first game.

Mulbarger led the Celtic offense with 13 kills, one ace and one block, while teammates Kayla Kirkpatrick and Lynett Jones came off the bench to score five kills apiece.

Camille Chun led the Celtics defensively with eight digs. Trinity Catholic will play Santa Fe for the third time this season in Tuesday’s regional championship match.
