An Alachua man was charged with carrying nearly $1,000 worth of marijuana after being pulled over for a burned out tag light.

Gainesville police charged Jordy Wayne Collins, 21, was charged with marijuana possession with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Officer Mark Sullivan stopped Collins in the 5000 block of Southwest 13th Street at 11:45 p.m. Monday. After Collins reportedly gave Sullivan consent to search the car, officers said they found about 93 grams of marijuana, which is worth at least $10 a gram. Also seized was a scale and other items police said appeared to be used to package marijuana for street-level sales, such as plastic bags.

Sullivan said a computer check on the maroon 1995 GMC sport utility vehicle Collins was driving showed the SUV was not registered and had never been registered in Florida.

Collins was being held at the Alachua County jail on Tuesday.
