Buchholz won its sixth consecutive District 1-3A title on Thursday at the Cecil Aquatic Center in Jacksonville and seniors Riley Flanagan and Hillary Petersen were a big reason why.
Both swimmers won their individual events with All-American consideration times. Flanagan won the 100-yard butterfly (57.19) and 100-yard backstroke (58.03) while Petersen won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.08) and 500-yard freestyle (5:01.10). Buchholz also won three relay events with Flanagan and Petersen’s help. They finished the 200-yard medley relay in 1:52.68, 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.48 and the 400-yard freestyle in 3:37.87.
“They make many points for us in the individuals and the relays,” Buchholz coach Rinaldo Sintjago said. “I think we can win the regionals with them.”
Sintjago said he will be looking for the leadership Flanagan and Petersen have shown all season during the regionals.
“They are really important in motivating the team,” he said.
When they learned that they had recorded All-American consideration times, Sintjago, Flanagan and Petersen were ecstatic.
“They are humbled because I think they know they are very good swimmers,” Sintjago said. “I am really proud of those girls.”
Volleyball
GIGI MEYER, BUCHHOLZ: During a three match stretch in the District 4-5A tournament, the junior setter had 33 service points including 15 aces, 79 assists and 24 digs. Buchholz won the district title over Gainesville.
Football
JOSH ROBINSON, NEWBERRY: In the Panthers’ 42-34 win over Keystone Heights, the senior caught thee passes for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while on defense he had an interception, forced a fumble, made four tackles and also broke up two passes.

Volleyball
EMILY VANGELDER, OAK HALL: The sophomore outside hitter helped lead Oak Hall to the District 4-1A championship with 16 service points including four aces, 23 kills and 22 digs during the final two matches of the district tournament.
TINA TOGHIYANI, OAK HALL: The junior middle blocker contributed to Oak Hall’s District 4-1A title run with 11 service points including one ace, 29 kills, four blocks and 22 digs during the final two matches of the district tournament.
CHRISTINE PINDER, BUCHHOLZ: The senior outside hitter had 24 service points, 32 digs, 35 kills and six blocks during as Buchholz claimed the District 4-5A title.
TORI LOVINS, SANTA FE: The junior had 46 assists, six digs, 18 service points including six aces, four kills and one block in two matches as Santa Fe won the District 5-3A title.
CYNTHIA SMITH, SANTA FE: The senior captain had 25 service points including 12 aces, 18 kills and seven digs in two district tournament matches.
Football
REGGIE THOMAS, KEYSTONE HEIGHTS: The junior running back had 25 carries for 244 yards and four touchdowns to go along with four receptions for 51 yards in the Indians’ loss to Newberry.
BRANDON STONE, TRENTON: The sophomore running back finished with 338 all-purpose yards, including an 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and three total touchdowns in a 55-20 loss to Wildwood.
JAMAAL MONTAGUE, COLUMBIA: The senior wide receiver had four catches for 67 yards and three rushes for 100 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown run that helped spark Columbia to a 36-32 comeback win over Jacksonville Ed White. Columbia locked up the district title with the win.
DEVONTE BELL, COLUMBIA: The junior outside linebacker led the Tiger defense in their thrilling 36-32 win with nine tackles including four solo tackles and one tackle for a loss.
RYAN MCGRIFF, GAINESVILLE: The junior quarterback torched Spring Hill Springstead, completing 22 of 35 passes for 321 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-13 win.
TROY CAMPBELL, GAINESVILLE: The senior wide receiver caught three passes for 137 yards, all for touchdowns, against Springstead.
NICK BRACEWELL, LAFAYETTE: The senior quarterback was 11-for-15 for 225 yards and three touchdowns in a 29-8 win over Jacksonville Arlington Country Day.
BROOKS LAMINACK, LAFAYETTE: The senior wide receiver had four catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns, including an 87-yard touchdown reception, during senior night.
KAMERON KEEN, DIXIE COUNTY: The senior quarterback went 10-for-14 for 257 yards and four touchdowns as the Bears blanked Chiefland 42-0.
HAROLD HOSKINS, EASTSIDE: The senior quarterback was 8-for-16 passing for 171 yards and a touchdown and also had 13 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns during the Rams’ 27-38 losss to Tallahassee Godby.
JOHN PERRY, BRANFORD: The senior running back had 12 carries for 192 yards and three touchdown, as well as a 77-yard kickoff return, during a 47-22 win over St. Augustine St. Joseph.
DAVID BASS, BRANFORD: The junior cornerback had nine tackles and one interception during the win over St. Joseph.
YANCE ENOCH, NEWBERRY: The senior quarterback carried 21 times for 168 yards and two touchdowns and also went 5-for-8 passing for 171 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-34 win over Keystone Heights.
Swimming and Diving
CHRISTINE KERR, EASTSIDE: The Dartmouth commit helped lead the Rams to their fifth straight District 4-2A title by winning both of her individual events. She swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.22 and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.95. She also helped Eastside win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.17) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:37.14).
DANIELLE KERR, EASTSIDE: Along with her sister, the Dartmouth commit won both of her individual events at the District 4-2A meet. She swam the 200 individual medley in 2:09.09 and the 100-yard butterfly in 57.95. She also swam on the same winning relay teams as her sister.
CULLEN FITZGERALD, P.K. YONGE: The freshman diver won the District 3-1A title with a score of 397.20.
