BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Florida kicker Caleb Sturgis was selected as SEC special teams player of the week, the league announced Monday.

Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon and Auburn cornerback Walt McFadden also were selected as players of the week.

Sturgis won special teams honors after kicking a career-long 56-yard field goal and making a 44-yarder in Florida’s win over Georgia.

Dixon rushed for a school-record 252 yards and two touchdowns in State’s win over Kentucky. It’s the SEC’s highest total this season.

Auburn’s McFadden tied a career-high with five tackles and returned the first of two interceptions for a touchdown against Mississippi.

Arkansas guard Mitch Petrus was offensive lineman of the week while Auburn end Antonio Coleman won defensive line honors. Tennessee defensive back Janzen Jackson was freshman of the week.
