SUNRISE, Fla. — More than a dozen volunteers have helped clean up the property of a South Florida woman who owes thousands in code violation fines.
Volunteers filled a 40-yard dumpster with the debris and trash at Debra Higgins' property in Sunrise on Saturday. Sunrise Commissioner Larry Sofield also says a four-foot beehive was removed. The city is still looking for a volunteer to help cut down two trees on the property.
Sofield says Higgins will still owe more than $600,000 in fines. Her property gained attention in October when an employee from a power company visited the house and was greeted by a stench so powerful he thought someone had died.
