Apparently, no one told Alabama running back Mark Ingram that the Heisman Trophy race was over.

After racing through and past South Carolina defenders for a career-high 246 yards rushing (third most ever by a Crimson Tide player), Ingram similarly shot into this week's Scripps Howard News Service Heisman Trophy poll.
Oh, Florida QB Tim Tebow (six first-place votes, 39 poll points) still leads, but his margin now is but four points after Ingram went from only a handful of mentions last week to 35 points including three first-place votes. That's the closest the Heisman race has been this season.
And should Alabama and Florida, the top two teams in this weeks first Bowl Championship Series rankings, meet as expected in the SEC Championship Game Dec. 5 in Atlanta, the Heisman could be there for the taking at the Georgia Dome. Further intrigue would be added in that no Alabama player has ever won the Heisman, while Tebow, the 2007 Heisman winner, would be trying to become only the second player ever to win two Heismans (joining Ohio States Archie Griffin in 1974-75).
Elsewhere, Texas QB Colt McCoy, second in last week's poll and second in last year's voting to Oklahoma's QB Sam Bradford, fell all the way to fifth after a poor statistical game in the Longhorns 16-13 win over Oklahoma. After nearly leading Notre Dame to an upset of Southern Cal, Fighting Irish QB Jimmy Clausen remains in third place.
Voting tabulations are made on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with five points for a first-place vote, four points for second, etc. First-place votes are in parentheses.

Player, Position, School, Last Week, Points1. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida, 17-of-26, 255 yards passing, TD, 69 yards rushing, 39 (6)
